Freshman Leads Wonder Boys in First Event

A strong debut by Ryan Spurlock highlighted Arkansas Tech University’s eighth-place finish among a field of 20 men’s golf teams at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Axtell, Neb.

Spurlock, a freshman from Little Rock, shot 73-72 for a 1-over par total of 145 and a share of eighth place in the final individual standings at the Wonder Boys’ first tournament of the 2016-17 academic year.

Arkansas Tech returned matching team scores of 298-298 for a 36-hole total of 596. Tournament host Nebraska-Kearney won the team title with a two-day score of 583.

Putter Srinoon (T-20th, 75-73-148), Austin Smith (T-28th, 76-73-149), Jay Trusty (T-68th, 77-80-157) and Julio Arguelles (T-82nd, 74-85-159) also competed in Nebraska for the Wonder Boys.

Head coach Luke Calcatera will lead Arkansas Tech back into competition on Monday, Sept. 19, and Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Northeastern State University Classic in Muskogee, Okla.
