Arkansas Tech University is proud to announce Paramedic and EMS Program Director, Joshua Freeman, as the Arkansas Emergency Medical Technician Association (AEMTA) 2017 EMS Instructor of the Year.
Freeman was presented with the award during the 2017 AEMTA Conference Aug. 2-6 in Hot Springs.
ATU-Ozark Chancellor Bruce Sikes praised Joshua Freeman, stating that; “he has been a fantastic addition to the university. He brings a unique skill set to our campus as a gifted paramedic, educator, clinical coordinator, and community facilitator.”
During Freeman’s tenure, he has modernized training equipment and the training lab and coordinated the donation of an ambulance to the campus.
Sikes also commended Freeman for his continuous efforts of collaborating with various EMS facilities, education institutions, and the ATU Russellville Emergency Management program, all for the benefit of his students.
“Joshua has an extensive list of accomplishments, including his successful recruiting efforts across the River Valley area and organizing multiple community and university training sessions and seminars,” said Sikes.
Freeman’s mentor and former instructor, KC Jones presented him with the award.
“Without the support of our administration and the faculty that work with me, I wouldn’t be able to do half of what I do,” said Freeman. “What I do for students, is considered part of the job for Arkansas Tech faculty. Serving students and making every student count is not just something we say, it’s something we live every day.”
Freeman also emphasized the importance of the individuals that pass through his program.
“Deciding to become a paramedic is one of the best decisions someone could ever make,” said Freeman. “Our program is a great option if they are looking for that education. Paramedics don’t make the best money, they don’t have the best hours, and they don’t receive enough credit for what they do, but they do impact many lives every single day on the job.”
Arkansas Tech Ozark’s Paramedic and EMS program is designed to meet the educational and training needs of those individuals who wish to gain Arkansas Department of Health Licensure and National Registry of EMT’s Certification as a Paramedic.
