Four Tech Teams Ranked in National Polls

Arkansas Tech won the weather-shortened 2014 Holiday Inn Missouri Western State University Women’s Golf Invitational earlier this week in St. Joseph, Mo. It was the second team championship of the 2013-14 season for Arkansas Tech’s women’s golf team, which also won the Northeastern State University Classic Sept. 16-17 in Catoosa, Okla. The Golden Suns have earned the team title at 13 tournaments since the beginning of the 2009-10 academic year. Arkansas Tech will compete in the Natural State Classic March 31-April 1 at Red Apple Inn and Country Club in Heber Springs. The Wonder Boys golf team is ranked No. 21 in the Golfstat NCAA Division II men’s national rankings. Alex Mahlik and Rowdy Garrett led Arkansas Tech to a third-place finish among a field of 14 men’s golf teams at the 2014 Jim Bishop Toyota Classic on Monday and Tuesday at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course in Ford City, Ala. Mahlik carded rounds of 76-71-72 for a 3-over par total of 219 and sole possession of second place in the individual standings, while Garrett finished in a tie for fourth place after he returned scores of 76-72-77 for a 225 total. Arkansas Tech will compete in the First Federal Bank Invitational at Big Creek Golf and Country Club in Mountain Home April 6-8. The Golden Suns tennis team is ranked No. 29 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II poll. Arkansas Tech (9-2 overall, 2-0 GAC) has won eight of its last nine women’s tennis matches, including a 6-3 GAC victory over Southern Nazarene University at Bethany, Okla., on Monday.
