Follow Tech Students During OnTrack Trip

Learn more about On Track.   Tuesday: ontracsantamonicaTuesday marks the final full day of activities for students taking part in the 2015 OnTrack trip. Tuesday morning the students will meet with a representative from the University of Southern California. Following their meeting, the students will visit the California African American Museum. The students will also will learn more about Warner Brothers during a studio tour of the facility, and they will close out the trip with a hike to the iconic Hollywood sign. Throughout the trip, the students will engage in networking opportunities, community service, cultural experiences and leadership development. Monday afternoon, the students will live like locals by enjoying Santa Monica. Depending on the weather, the students will enjoy the water, waves and the iconic pier park and boardwalk. After dealing with some jet lag, the students will be volunteering at the RockSTAR Battle of the Bands for Kids. Following the volunteer effort, the students will have the opportunity to enjoy part of the L.A. Art Show before ending the evening with a Dodgers Game. The students have a direct flight and will get into Los Angeles later Saturday evening. Friday: ontrackwhitehouseFriday is the final day for the students on the OnTrack trip to in Washington D.C. The students will enjoy a tour of the White House first and will have the opportunity to see several rooms in the historic home. Friday afternoon, the students will learn more about United States history when they visit the National Museum of American History and the Newseum. The final activity in the city will be a performance at the Kennedy Center. They are meeting with an attorney at a Washington D.C. law firm to learn more about the political landscape in the area. Following the meeting, the students will tour the United State Holocaust Memorial Museum before visiting the National Zoo. Finally, the students will see the sights of the city as during a night tour. Throughout the trip, the students will engage in networking opportunities, community service, cultural experiences and leadership development. Today, the students are in Washington D.C. and are learning about government and politics\. First, they are attending a full committee mark-up meeting to see part of the legislative process. Afterwards, they’ll visit the Supreme Court to learn about the judicial system. Finally, the students will have the opportunity to meet with Congressman Steve Womack and tour the capital. Students completing the OnTrack program during the 2014-15 academic year were eligible to apply for a reward trip to Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, CA. The students taking part in the trip include:
