Six Wonder Boys Named Players to Watch

One Web site that covers NCAA Division II football has listed six Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys among its “players to watch” in the Great American Conference during the 2011 season.

Josh Buchanan’s Scouting (www.jbscouting.com) recognized the following Wonder Boys:

  • Tavin Davis, Junior, Running Back (photographed)
  • Hayward Howard, Senior, Defensive Lineman
  • Roger Jackson, Junior, Wide Receiver
  • Brandon Keaton, Senior, Linebacker
  • Joe Means, Senior, Cornerback
  • Daryl Ward, Junior, Offensive Lineman

East Central University dominates the Josh Buchanan’s Scouting preseason All-GAC squad with 10 selections, including six on defense.

Harding (4), Arkansas-Monticello (3), Southwestern Oklahoma State (3), Ouachita Baptist (2), Southern Arkansas (2) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (1) also had one or more student-athletes selected to the Web site’s preseason All-GAC team.

Both Arkansas Tech and Henderson State had student-athletes listed among the players to watch, but neither is represented on the Josh Buchanan’s Scouting preseason All-GAC team.

Arkansas Tech was picked in a preseason poll of league head coaches to finish tied for third in the nine-team league this season, while Henderson State is the coaches’ preseason favorite to win the first GAC title.

The Wonder Boys will open their 2011 football season on Saturday, Sept. 3, with a 6 p.m. GAC game against Arkansas-Monticello at Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium in Monticello.
