Five Wonder Boys Earn All-GAC Honors

Arkansas Tech University was represented by one first team selection, one second team performer and three honorable mention picks when the 2012 All-Great American Conference football team was announced on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Arkansas Tech University was represented by one first team selection, one second team performer and three honorable mention picks when the 2012 All-Great American Conference football team was announced on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The all-conference teams were voted on by the 11 head football coaches from the Great American Conference. This was the second season for the GAC, which was accepted by the NCAA as the 23rd NCAA Division II conference on March 9, 2011.

Tech’s All-GAC football student-athletes for 2012 are:

  • Senior Cody Lewis of Houston, Texas; first team All-GAC, special teams (photographed)
  • Junior Brandon Cathey of Memphis, Tenn.; second team All-GAC, offensive line
  • Senior Tanner Marsh of Carrollton, Texas; honorable mention All-GAC, quarterback
  • Junior Cassius Washington of Shreveport, La.; honorable mention All-GAC, wide receiver and return specialist
  • Sophomore Tyler Moon of Euless, Texas; honorable mention All-GAC, utility player

The Wonder Boys finished the 2012 season with a 5-6 overall record and 3-5 mark in league play.

GAC champion Henderson State University (10-0) swept the four major postseason football awards in the conference. HSU’s Scott Maxfield was named GAC coach of the year, Reddie quarterback Kevin Rodgers was selected as GAC offensive player of the year, Henderson State linebacker Maxie Graham earned GAC defensive player of the year and HSU linebacker Tim Llewellyn took GAC freshman of the year.
