Five In a Row: Golden Suns Extend Win Streak

Arkansas Tech posted two victories on day one of the University of Alabama in Huntsville Country Inn and Suites Volleyball Invitational on Friday.

The Golden Suns (5-1) breezed past the West Georgia Wolves 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 in their first match of the day.

Kelly O’Malley had 12 kills, while Sara Motsinger notched 11 kills and five blocks in the win. Brennae Benda made 14 digs.

Arkansas Tech went on to defeat Cedarville University 19-25, 25-15, 28-26, 25-23 in its second match on Friday. The victory extended the Golden Suns’ winning streak to five consecutive matches.

Motsinger delivered the critical blows in Tech’s triumph over the Yellow Jackets.

She recorded back-to-back kills with the score tied 26-26 in the third to give the Golden Suns the set and the upper hand for good.

Motsinger finished the match with 15 kills and seven blocks. Laura Farney added 12 kills for Tech. Thabata Galvao had 13 digs. Brittany Ryan added five blocks.

Setter Amber Cerrillos was consistent for the Golden Suns on Friday. She had 37 assists against West Georgia and 37 assists against Cedarville.

The Golden Suns will conclude their stay in Huntsville by taking on Christian Brothers (1 p.m.) and Alabama-Huntsville (3 p.m.) on Saturday.
