Five Arkansas Tech Graduates Commission as Officers

Five graduating seniors from the U.S. Army ROTC program at Arkansas Tech University were commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army National Guard during a ceremony at Doc Bryan Student Services Center Lecture Hall on Saturday, May 6.

Jorge Diaz of Green Forest, Andrew Harris of Cabot, John Linn of Little Rock, Khamian Riley of Benton and Addison Wooten of Dover received their gold bars before an audience of family, friends and U.S. Army ROTC cadets.

The commissioning coincided with each new officer’s graduation from Arkansas Tech.

Diaz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and will be a field artillery officer.

Harris received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and will be an ordnance officer.

Linn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and will be a field artillery officer.

Riley received a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education and will be a field artillery officer.

Wooten earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and will be an engineering officer.

Capt. Larry Boggs, ATU assistant professor of military science and officer in charge for the ATU U.S. Army ROTC program, was master of ceremonies at the commissioning ceremony.

The ATU U.S. Army ROTC program has commissioned more than 800 officers since it was founded in 1952.
