Members of the Arkansas Tech University Fishing Club visited St. John’s Elementary School in Russellville last week to teach children about water safety, fishing and environmental responsibility.
Tech Fishing Club members shared their knowledge about those topics, and they also had some fun. The children were particularly entertained by the different types of fishing bait, and several of them went home with a sample thanks to Tech Fishing Club member Evan Barnes (photographed).
The Arkansas Tech Fishing Club is sponsored by Christy Austin of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Hospitality Administration.
The club has celebrated several noteworthy achievements in recent weeks, including Reagan Moore becoming the first female to win a BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship tournament series event, a win by Evan Smith and Jordan Mullenix at the University of Louisiana at Monroe Invitational and a state championship by Aaron English and Jake Jacobs.
Arkansas Tech is in first place in the race for Association of Collegiate Anglers school of the year.
