Family Day Festivities Saturday

Arkansas Tech University will host its annual Family Day festivities on Saturday.  The annual event is designed to honor the role family members play in help students find success in college. Throughout the day, family members will have multiple opportunities to enjoy Arkansas Tech and the River Valley community. The festivities get underway at 8 a.m. with a Green & Gold 5k run/walk.  The event will be a color run, and individuals are encouraged to wear white clothing.  Throughout the course, participants will be covered in green and gold non-toxic paint.  Individuals with an Arkansas Tech University ID are able to participate at no cost.  The cost is $20 for others wishing to take part. Tech students and their families looking to relax will also be able to enjoy a round of golf at the Russellville Country Club.  Tee times are available starting at 8 a.m. and are available every 10 minutes until 10 a.m.  The event costs $30 per golfer, which includes a cart rental. Students and their families will be treated to a New Orleans-inspired brunch and musical performances by the Jazz Ensemble and the Music Theatre Workshop.  The brunch lasts from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Baswell Techionery. Following the brunch, several outdoor games will be available for students and their families at Hindsman Tower.  The free games will be begin at noon and include baggo, birdie golf, ladder ball and Frisbee golf. As part of Family Day, the Norman Hall Art Gallery will offer a special showing of an exhibit.  From noon-3 p.m. students and their families will be able to enjoy refreshments while viewing “Dreams and Disasters,” a charcoal exhibit by David Bailin. The annual Tech Open house is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. and is designed to provide future students with information about attending Arkansas Tech University.  This will mark the 17th year for the open house, which will take place in the Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center. Beginning at 1 p.m., students and their families can take part in sand volleyball at Turner Hall.  There is no cost to play, and those wishing to participate are encouraged to bring a team. The Arkansas Tech University Alumni Association will honor the recipients of the Tech Alumni Scholarship during a reception at the Baswell Techionery.  The reception begins at 1:30 p.m. and is open to Tech alumni wishing to attend. Arkansas Tech’s Concert Chorale will present a concert Saturday afternoon at the Hindsman Tower.  The concert begins at 2:30 p.m., and Tech fans are invited to attend. Tailgating will take center stage at 3 p.m. at Centennial Plaza, and those attending will enjoy several free family-friendly activities including sno-cones, face painting, cotton candy and a photo both.  During the tailgate, Tech students and their families will enjoy a complimentary pre-game meal of brisket, coleslaw, potato salad and baked beans. The Arkansas Tech University Marching Band and the Tech Spirit Squads will take part in Family Day by leading a pep-rally to help get fans excited for the game.  The pep-rally begins at 5:30 p.m. at Centennial Plaza.
