Arkansas Tech University will celebrate the role parents and other family members play in helping students succeed in college during Family Day at Arkansas Tech.
Family Day festivities are set for Saturday, September 15, and the day will offer several opportunities for parents and family members to enjoy Arkansas Tech and the River Valley community.
Beginning at 8 a.m., Arkansas Tech students and their families will be able to enjoy a round of golf at the Russellville Country Club. Tee times are available every 10 minutes until 10 a.m., and the event costs $25 per golfer, which includes a cart rental.
Students and their families will also be able to enjoy a brunch and a jazz performance by the Arkansas Tech University Jazz Ensemble. The event will feature creole-inspired favorites and is free to all students and their families. The brunch lasts from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Baswell Techionery.
The Arkansas Tech University Alumni Association is also taking part in the festivities and is offering alumni the chance to connect with other Tech alums during an alumni reception. The reception runs from 2-3 p.m. at the Alumni House.
Tailgating will take center stage at 3 p.m. at Centennial Plaza, and those attending will enjoy several free family-friendly activities including sno-cones, face painting, cotton candy and inflatable games. Additionally, the first 100 families to have their photo taken will receive a free photograph and Family Day photo frame. Family members wishing to watch the football game against Henderson will have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets during the tailgating festivities.
Beginning at 4 p.m. Tech students and their families will be able to enjoy a free pre-game meal of brisket, coleslaw, potato saladm and baked beans. Those individuals not part of Family Day festivities who would like to purchase a meal can do so for $2 for non-Tech students and $5 for adults.
The Arkansas Tech University Marching Band will also take part in Family Day by leading a pep-rally to help get fans excited for the game. The pep-rally begins at 5:15 p.m. at Centennial Plaza.
The Wonder Boys will kick off against the Henderson State Reddies beginning at 6 p.m. at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field.
