The Arkansas Tech University Department of Emergency Management hosted a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region VI higher education collaborative conference at the Doc Bryan Student Services Center in Russellville on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Participants, both in-person and via distance technology, learned from a series of speakers representing various aspects of the emergency management profession.
Speakers included ATU faculty members Dr. Jamie Stacy, Bethany Swindell and Lucas Moody.
Dr. Judy Cezeaux, dean of the ATU College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Dr. Sandy Smith, head of the ATU Department of Emergency Management, offered participants a greeting at the beginning of the day.
Additional speakers were Dr. Kevin Clement, executive director of strategic partnerships, University of Houston College of Technology; Dr. J. Pete Blair, executive director, ALERRT Center at Texas State University; Andi Smith, emergency manager, Northeastern State University (Okla.); Tyler Lachowsky, emergency management coordinator, University of Central Arkansas; Dr. Joseph Richmond, assistant professor of disaster preparedness and emergency management, Arkansas State University; Amy Hyman, assistant professor of disaster preparedness and emergency management, Arkansas State University; and Dr. Alyssa L. Provencio, visiting assistant professor, University of Central Oklahoma.
