Davis Recognized for Work With Youth Tennis

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) have honored Arkansas Tech head tennis coach Abby Davis for her efforts to promote the game among the youth of the Arkansas River Valley.

Davis earned the 2010 USTA/ITA QuickStart Provider of the Year award for the USTA Southern Section after hosting a variety of programs over the past several months that provided children age 10 and under access to instruction and competitive opportunities in the game of tennis.

“I really, really appreciate Arkansas Tech University for allowing me to use our courts at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex to run these programs and for me to be so involved within the community,” said Davis in a news release from the Arkansas Tech Department of Athletics. “This is a tremendous honor and I’m very thankful for it.”

Davis is in her seventh year as the head tennis coach at Arkansas Tech. A four-year letter winner and All-Gulf South Conference performer during her playing career with the Golden Suns from 1998-2002, Davis has taken the Tech tennis program to new heights over the past three years.

The Golden Suns have reached three consecutive GSC Tournaments, and the 2008-09 squad set a new school record for tennis victories in a season (17).

A native of Paris, Davis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (2002) and a Master of Education degree (2004) from Arkansas Tech. She also serves as an instructor in the Arkansas Tech Department of Health and Physical Education.
