Dampeer Earns 2nd Preseason All-America Nod

Arkansas Tech University defensive lineman Roland Dampeer has been named to the USA Football News 2012 NCAA Division II preseason All-America second team.

It was the second preseason All-America recognition for Dampeer, who was selected for a similar honor by Beyond Sports College Network earlier this summer.

Dampeer, a senior from Mendenhall, Miss., was a 2011 All-Great American Conference first team selection in recognition of his performance last season.

The transfer from Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Miss.) ranked among the GAC leaders in quarterback sacks (T-3rd, 6.0) and tackles for a loss (T-12th, 9.5) in 2011. He was credited with 23 total tackles, five quarterback hurries and one blocked kick during his junior campaign.

Dampeer’s best game of the season came on Homecoming, when he made three quarterback sacks and four tackles for a loss to help Arkansas Tech defeat Southeastern Oklahoma State 28-16.

The Wonder Boys have won 18 conference championships and accumulated 526 wins — 10th-most in NCAA Division II — during their 97-season history.

Arkansas Tech will begin its 98th season of intercollegiate football on Saturday, Sept. 1, when it hosts Bacone College for a 6 p.m. non-conference game at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field in Russellville.

The game will mark the debut of a new synthetic playing surface at Arkansas Tech.
