Cross Country Finishes 14th in Season Debut

Cami Hedstrom ran one of the fastest 5-kilometer times in Arkansas Tech University women’s cross country history to highlight the Golden Suns’ participation in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Saturday night.

A freshman from Bentonville, Hedstrom completed the course in 19 minutes, 15.04 seconds. It ranks No. 30 on the all-time list of fastest 5-kilometer times for the Golden Suns.

Arkansas Tech finished 14th among a field of 26 teams in the season-opening meet.

Amy Riera (118th, 20:18.72), Shannon McLaughlin (122nd, 20:33.94), Logan Edwards (144th, 21:05.00), Mary Simmons (163rd, 21:27.00), Mallory Morris (182nd, 22:11.47), Kami Ward (189th, 22:23.03), Megan Bradley (192nd, 22:26.35) and Adrianna Simmons (208th, 23:19.24) also represented the Golden Suns in Memphis.

Arkansas Tech will compete in the University of Central Arkansas Open on Saturday, Sept. 10. The race is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. in Conway.
