Crisis Response Training Set for April 27-28

The Arkansas Tech University Department of Emergency Management, the Arkansas Tech Professional Development Institute and the Arkansas Crisis Response Team will present a basic crisis response training course at Lake Point Conference Center this month. The two-day event will be on Tuesday, April 27, and Wednesday, April 28. Registration fee, which includes all training materials, is $200 per person or $175 per person for an organization that registers three or more people for the training. “One of the most pressing needs following any major disaster or mass casualty event is the treatment of post-traumatic emotional stress experienced by those involved as either victims or responders,” said Dr. Richard Ihde, assistant professor of emergency management at Arkansas Tech. “Receiving training in the application of recently developed techniques to help alleviate this very personal reaction to overwhelming stress has become a priority for many organizations.” Training participants will concentrate on the fundamentals of crisis and trauma during day one. Day two will educate the class about issues related to culture, ethnicity, children, the elderly and special populations. To register for the training, call (479) 964-0541 or visit www.atu.edu/lakepoint.
