Covert to Serve as Southern Region Secretary

Arkansas Tech University student Skot Covert says he has always had a love for politics.

Covert, a senior emergency management student from Ozark, will spend his senior year serving as the Southern Region Secretary for the College Republican National Committee.

Covert says he’ll be working as a liaison between the College Republican National Committee and the state organizations within his region.

During his year-long term, Covert says he will have the opportunity to be involved in a historic moment for his generation.

“The 2012 election cycle will be of historic significance to the future of our country, and my generation,” adds Covert.  “Being able to take part in the process that will decide the direction of our country with thousands of other college republicans is very exciting and humbling.”

While working in his liaison role, Covert hopes to gain a better understanding of the political process in several states.   He adds, “Politically, Arkansas is a very unique state. This new opportunity will allow me to learn and grasp a better understanding of the political process in other states in the Southern Region.”

Additionally Covert says he will have opportunity to network with numerous individuals across the region he serves.

Covert says he became a member of the Arkansas Tech College Republicans his freshman year and served as a Teenage Republican during high school.  He says being a member of the College Republican National Committee has been an “added catalyst” to his love of politics.

While Covert is unsure if he has political aspirations of his own, he has assisted with a political campaign and says he will “never back away from an opportunity to serve and give back.”
