Conferences On Campus This Week

While Arkansas Tech University students are enjoying their fall break on Thursday, Oct. 20, and Friday, Oct. 21, many faculty and staff members will be hosting conferences on the Russellville campus.

The third annual Arkansas Computer Science Education Leadership Summit will take place at Arkansas Tech from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday.

Scheduled speakers during the opening session include Dr. Vince Bertram, president and chief executive officer for Project Lead the Way, and Anthony Owen, coordinator of computer science for the Arkansas Department of Education.

Following a full day of break-out sessions, the final session of the day will feature Bill Gossage, deputy chief of staff in the Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s office, and Mark McDougal, K-12 account executive for Apple Inc.

The Arkansas Tech College of Education will host the fall assistant principals’ conference of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators (AAEA) from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Plenary sessions for the AAEA event will include a presentation about social media by Donn Mixon, attorney with Mixon and Worsham Law Firm, and a lecture entitled “A Vision of Excellence for Arkansas Education” by Dr. Richard Abernathy, AAEA executive director.

The inaugural Arkansas Tech University Agriculture Conference will take place from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday. The event will provide education and training to help current or future producers improve their revenue and operation. The conference will primarily be dedicated to the cattle and poultry industry with live demonstrations in the afternoon.

Scheduled agriculture conference speakers and demonstrators include Gary Hogue, vice president of live production at OK Foods, Inc.; Dr. Patrick Martin Pilkington, senior account manager for Elanco; Sarah Cotton Patterson, attorney at Friday, Eldredge and Clark; Dr. T. Robin Falkner, Doctor of Veterinary Medcine, professional agribusiness speaker and founder of the Cattle Flow Group; Jim Moore, owner of Moore Cattle Company; Kenny Simon, program associate of the Department of Animal Science; Jason Davis, application technologist of crop, soil and environmental science.
