Arkansas Tech University will present its Concert Band and its Symphonic Band for a performance entitled “Modern Masters” at Witherspoon Auditorium on Sunday, April 17.
The show will begin at 2:30 p.m. Admission will be free and open to the public.
According to the Department of Music, the bands will perform works by composers who “have given the wind band serious repertoire that truly push our understanding of the term band music.”
Pieces scheduled for performance by the Arkansas Tech Concert Band include “Tournament” by Stephen Bulla, “Spiritual” by Don Gillis and “Simple Gifts” by Frank Ticheli.
The Arkansas Tech Symphonic Band will offer its interpretation of “River Town Jubilee” by Steve Danyew, “Watchman, Tell Us of the Night” by Mark Camphouse and “Illumination” by David Maslanka.
Ralph Brody, adjunct instructor of music, will conduct the Concert Band, which is a large performing group dedicated to the non-music major population.
Dr. Daniel A. Belongia, director of bands and associate professor of music, will conduct the Symphonic Band, which is comprised primarily of music majors but also open to students of all majors by audition.
