ATU to Celebrate Civil Rights Leader Jan. 15

Members of the Arkansas Tech University community will remember Martin Luther King Jr. with a celebration of remembrance and campus-wide community service project on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The celebration of remembrance and march will begin at 5 p.m. at Hindsman Tower and end at the W.O. Young Building. From there, students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of ATU are invited to participate in a service project inside Young Ballroom.

Volunteers will prepareĀ 1,000 hygiene kits (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc.) for distribution at the River Valley Shelter for Battered Women and Children.

Participants are also invited to bring and donate a non-perishable food item that will assist the Green and Gold Cupboard in fulfilling its mission of combating food insecurity in the ATU community.

It will mark the fourth consecutive year that ATU has participated in a community service project as part of its Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemoration.

In addition to the above events, Arkansas Tech University will be closed on Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
