Community Partners in Service Visit Campus

Organizations and entities from the Arkansas River Valley sent representatives to the third annual Arkansas Tech University Department of Campus Life community partners summit at Chambers Cafeteria West Dining Room on Wednesday, July 13.

Groups represented at the summit included Alzheimer’s Arkansas, ARVAC Food Bank, the City of Dardanelle, the City of Russellville, Community Service Inc., Freedom House, Girl Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Hawk Center, Lake Dardanelle State Park, Main Street Russellville, Manna House, Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk, Pope County Library, Relay for Life/American Cancer Society, River Valley Assisted Living, River Valley Medical Center, River Valley Prevention Coalition, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Save the Children/Head Start and Uncommon Communities.

Kara Johnson, coordinator of leadership and service in the Arkansas Tech Department of Campus Life, led a presentation about connecting with Tech students.

Among the informational resources provided to those in attendance were how to understand the millennial student, best practices for working with and engaging college students to ensure returning volunteers, how to request Arkansas Tech students as volunteers, connecting with Tech students throughout the academic year and volunteer programs at Tech that benefit local organizations.

According to data collected by the Arkansas Tech University Department of Campus Life, students at Arkansas Tech performed 16,314 hours of service to the surrounding community during the 2015-16 academic year.
