Thirty-nine anglers representing colleges and universities from a four-state region took to the waters of Lake Dardanelle for day one of the seventh annual Arkansas Tech University College Bass Invitational on Friday.
The leader after day one is Travis Harriman of the University of Arkansas, who fished alone and brought in five bass weighing a total of 17.19 pounds.
The Arkansas Tech University team of Aaron Sarna and Evan Barnes is in second place with 16.96 pounds.
Only two other teams — Paul Clark and Brett Preuett of the University of Louisiana at Monroe (3rd, 10.31 pounds) and Adam Zimmerman and Dylan Penzo of Arkansas Tech (4th, 10.25 pounds) — reached double digits in pounds on Friday.
Other Arkansas Tech teams on the water Friday included Jake Jacobs and Nathan Cathcart (11th, 3.19 pounds); Evan Smith and Reagan Moore (12th, 2.17 pounds); Matt Manos and Kristin Manos (T-16th, 0 pounds); Clayton Schuh and Wil Hafner (T-16th, 0 pounds); and Deerick Smith and Brandon Martin (T-16th, 0 pounds).
The second and final day of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday on Lake Dardanelle. Weigh-in at the pavilion at Lake Dardanelle State Park in Russellville is scheduled for approximately 2 p.m.
The event is hosted by the Arkansas Tech Fishing Club, which won the 2011-12 Association of Collegiate Anglers national school of the year award. The Arkansas Tech College Bass Invitational marks the beginning of the 2012-13 college fishing season.
