Rene Izquierdo, associate professor of classical guitar at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will perform the 2017 John and Trudy Watson Classical Guitar Series concert at Arkansas Tech University on Monday, Oct. 16.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.
A native of Cuba, Izquierdo holds Master of Music degrees in guitar from the Superior Institute of Art Havana and the Yale University School of Music.
He also owns a Master of Music degree in education from Lehman College (N.Y.).
Izquierdo has been awarded several classical guitar competition prizes, most recently earning a finalist commendation in the JoAnne Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition. He has appeared as a guest soloist and in chamber music concerts throughout the United States, Cuba and Europe.
The annual classical guitar concert at ATU is made possible through the generosity of Dr. John W. Watson, distinguished professor of mathematics and former vice president for academic affairs at ATU, and his wife, Trudy.
