Tuesday afternoon members from the Class of 1959 gathered at the Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center for a special celebration. The group donated a carillon bell system to the university last fall, and they gathered to hear the bell system chime for the first time.
Following the first chime of the bell system, members of the Class of 1959 gathered for lunch to celebrate the installation.
Those attending Tuesday’s event said they were excited to see the system installed, and they hope current and future students will enjoy listening to the bell system for years to come.
The Class of 1959 donated the system to Arkansas Tech during homecoming festivities last fall. As part of the homecoming festivities, the Class of 1959 celebrated their 50 th reunion and donated the bell system as a way to commemorate their time at Arkansas Tech.
Organizers say that all the members of the Class of 1959 contributed in raising funds for the bell system.
