Chinese Students to Attend Camp at Tech

More than 30 high school students and teachers from China will be on the Arkansas Tech campus beginning next week for a two-week summer language camp.

The International and Multicultural Student Services Office and the English Language Institute will be hosting 26 students and 8 teachers from Tanghu High School in Chengdu, China, for the camp beginning on Thursday, July 15.

Amy Pennington, director of the Arkansas Tech International and Multicultural Student Services Office, says the camp will help to expose “these Chinese high school students to American culture, teach English language skills and introduce them to life at Arkansas Tech University.”

Pennington says after visiting the high school this past spring, she and Dr. John Watson, vice president for academic affairs, began working on making the summer language camp a reality.

During the camp, students will attend classes each morning and enjoy afternoon and weekend excursions to experience the culture in America.  Pennington says the students will visit the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library, an Arkansas Travelers baseball game and several other activities.
