Chartwells Works to Ensure Student Focus

As students return to classes, one place they are sure to find is eating options on the Tech campus.

Chartwells oversees the multiple eating establishments available to Arkansas Tech Students.  While on campus, students are able to enjoy meals in a variety of Chartwells operated locations including Chambers Cafeteria, the Grab N’ Go, the Doc Bryan Convenience Store and the Baswell Techionery. For members of Chartwells, it’s more than providing food to students. It’s about providing top-notch customer service. Jerry Stills serves as the director of dining services, and he says he wants to continually enhance the campus dining experience for Arkansas Tech students and is always looking for ways to provide a positive experience for students. Stills says this goal means he is willing to try new things.  He adds, “Our staff really cares about our students.  We try to come up with fun, creative options to make this their home-away-from home.” Some of the ideas Stills says students will see this semester is special events in the cafeteria.  Prior to each football game, there will be a Tech spirit table in the cafeteria with tasty treats for students to try.  Stills also says several themed meals are in the works. The student-focus also extends to the Baswell Techionery.  Stills says his team worked with students, administrators and the building architects to find the right eating options for students taking advantage of the new facility. While his crew is still adapting to the new facility, he says he is happy to hear such positive feedback about it from the students. One thing Chartwells hopes to improve this semester is communication with students.  Chartwells has created several ways to connect with students. Students wishing to leave a comment or a suggestion about the cafeteria are able to do so by filling out a comment card, which is located on a table in the facility.  Comment cards are reviewed regularly. Chartwells also has a dining service website, which features weekly menus, hours of operation and additional information for students. Chartwells has also created a Facebook page and a Twitter account to keep students informed.  Organizers say these will also be a way to let students know about specials and offer students a discount.
