Chambers Installed as Tech Board Chairman

John E. Chambers III of Danville was elected chairman of the Arkansas Tech University Board of Trustees during the first board meeting of the 2011 calendar year on Thursday, Jan. 20. Chambers (photographed) is president, chief executive officer and chairman of Chambers Bancshares, Inc. He has served on the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees from 1994-99 and from 2007-present

Chambers is the third generation of his family to serve on the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees. His grandfather, John Ed Chambers, served from 1925-37, 1939-53 and 1955-63. His father, John Ed Chambers II, was a member of the Tech Board of Trustees from 1965-67 and 1987-88.

Chambers Cafeteria on the Arkansas Tech campus in Russellville is named in honor of all three generations of the family and their service to the university.

Leigh Whiteside of Russellville was elected vice chairman and Charles Blanchard of Russellville was elected secretary of the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees for the 2011 calendar year on Thursday.

They will be joined on the board by Tom Kennedy of Little Rock and a fifth member to be named by Gov. Mike Beebe at a later date.

Dean Wilburn of Harrison, outgoing Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees chairman, was presented with a plaque during Thursday’s meeting in appreciation of his service on the board.
