Cerrillos, Ryan Honored by League Office

Arkansas Tech’s Amber Cerrillos was tabbed Great American Conference setter of the week and Tech’s Brittany Ryan was named GAC defensive player of the week when the league office announced its weekly volleyball awards on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Cerrillos (photographed, left) and Ryan (photographed, right) helped the Golden Suns go 5-0 last week as they tightened their grip on first place in the GAC standings.

A sophomore from Michigan City, Ind., Cerrillos is GAC setter of the week for a third consecutive week and for the fourth time this season. She made 185 assists, zero ball-handling errors, 28 digs and five service aces last week.

Ryan notched 23 blocks last week, giving her 109 blocks for the season. Her block total this season is already the most by a Golden Sun since 2008, when Sarah Von Lienen recorded 123 blocks.

A junior from Mena, Ryan also made 41 kills last week. This is her second GAC defensive player of the week award this season.

The Golden Suns (26-3 overall, 10-0 GAC) will host Southern Arkansas on Tuesday, Oct. 18, and Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday, Oct. 20, in league matches. Both contests will start at 7 p.m. No admission will be charged at Tucker Coliseum.
