Cerrillos Collects 5th Setter of Week Award

Arkansas Tech’s Amber Cerrillos continued her season-long domination of the Great American Conference setter of the week award on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Cerrillos, a sophomore from Michigan City, Ind., earned her fifth GAC setter of the week award in the first nine weeks of the 2011 regular season.

Her latest award comes after she made 87 assists, 30 digs, six service aces and two blocks while leading the Golden Suns to road victories over East Central and Harding last week.

Cerrillos had a double-double in both matches. She notched 36 assists and 10 digs in a 3-0 victory over East Central, and she backed that up with 51 assists and a career-high 20 digs in a 3-2 win at Harding.

Arkansas Tech’s win at Harding on Thursday allowed the Golden Suns to clinch the inaugural GAC volleyball championship.

With the regular season title in hand, Arkansas Tech can now make plans to host the GAC Volleyball Tournament Nov. 11-12 at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.

The Golden Suns (30-3 overall, 14-0 GAC) will wrap up the regular season by hosting Southeastern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, and Southwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. Admission to both matches will be free.
