Catch Tech’s Jazz Ensemble Friday Night

The sounds of the Arkansas Tech University Jazz Ensemble will fill Witherspoon Auditorium on Friday, Nov. 18.

Nineteen Tech students and their director, Dr. Sean Reed, will perform beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be free.

The show will begin with a piece entitled “Dinah in the Minah.” Members of the Arkansas Tech practice of improvisation class in the Department of Music created the work, which is based upon the 1925 jazz standard “Dinah” by Harry Akst, Sam M. Lewis and Joe Young.

Other pieces scheduled for performance include “Cherry Juice” by Thad Jones, “Spinning Wheel” by David Clayton Thomas, “What is Hip?” by Stephen Kupka, Emilio Castillo and David Garibaldi, “The Chicken” by Alfred James Ellis, “Funk City-Ola” by Bob Mintzer and “Some Skunk Funk” by Randy Brecker.

Members of the Arkansas Tech Jazz Ensemble are Jarod Apple, Cole Birmingham, Tina Christiansen, Jordan Davis, Jackie Seres and Ger Vang in the saxophone section; Nathan Andrews, Trevor Gould, David Hall, Krystofer Hayche and Dalton Snow on trumpet; Alex Evans, Jacob Hawkins, Holden Jones and Alex Smith on trombone; and Michael Barker, Payton Crawford, Bryson Jones and Zachary Seresinhe in the rhythm section.
