• Tribble said the workshops allow students to hone skills that can make a big impact when looking for a position. “Our workshops are designed to help students finesse the soft-skills that play a large role in the employment search,” said Tribble. “We hope students leave the workshops feeling prepared and better able to communicate the experiences that have prepared them to be successful.” In addition to several workshops, students are able to visit with members of Career Services for individual assistance with their resume and cover letter. Last fall, nearly 300 students took advantage of the free service. “Part of what we do is offer each Tech student the opportunity to sit down with someone in our office and review their cover letter and resume,” said Tribble. “We are able to help the students articulate why they should be the individual selected for the job.” This spring, students will also have the opportunity to attend several career fairs hosted by Norman Career Services. The following career fairs are scheduled for the spring:
• Educator’s Career Fair – Thursday, Feb. 27
• Engineering Career Fair – Tuesday, April 8
• Spring Career Fair – Wednesday, April 9
• Computer & Information Science Career Fair – Thursday, April 10
The services offered by Norman Career Services paid off for several students last semester. Multiple students from Arkansas Tech received internships and career positions after working with Norman Career Services. “Last semester we had quite a few students take the next step in their career as a result of working with our office,” said Tribble. “I think that success shows the importance of perfecting skills related to a career search. I hope that more students take advantage of Norman Career Services this spring.” Learn more about Norman Career Services at Arkansas Tech. ]]>
