Canned Food Sculpture Winners Announced

Winners of the WonderWeek 2012 Let’s Can Hunger Canned Food Sculpture Competition were announced Saturday at the Gold Rush basketball games.

Phi Mu will receive $300 for their first place sculpture, depicting a hot air balloon representing Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, the national philanthropy of the women’s fraternity.

Alpha Tau Omega came in second place and will receive $200 for their sculpture called “Don’t Feed gATOrs.”

In third place, the Arkansas Tech Chapter of International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) will receive $100.

Each canned food sculpture had a jar next to it for the public to vote via donation. The six sculptures with the largest sum of donations received extra points. A total of $142.87 was collected to donate to Main Street Mission.

Additionally, more than 1,700 pounds of food will be delivered to Main Street Mission this week as a result of the competition.

The 2012 WonderWeek Committee and SIFE thank student organizations for their benevolence and generosity in donations and non-perishable food items.
