Campus Recreation Receives New Leadership

Luke Calcatera is the new coordinator of campus recreation in the Arkansas Tech University Office of Student Services.

He was appointed to the position by the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees effective Sept. 1.

Calcatera has been a part of the Arkansas Tech family for nearly a decade. He was a member of the Wonder Boys golf team from 2003-07 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in emergency management in 2007.

He returned to campus in 2011 as head men’s golf coach. Calcatera, the 2011-12 Great American Conference men’s golf coach of the year, will continue to oversee the Wonder Boys golf program in addition to his duties in campus recreation.

According to its mission statement, the purpose of the campus recreation program at Arkansas Tech is “to provide opportunities for a diversified population to recreate, exercise and socialize through a variety of programs including intramural sports, fitness, outdoor recreation and special events.”

Calcatera is enrolled in the Master of Science degree program in college student personnel at Arkansas Tech. He succeeds Grant Watts, who resigned as coordinator of campus recreation at Arkansas Tech effective Aug. 14 in order to pursue a new career opportunity at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
