Calcatera Named Tech Men's Golf Coach

Arkansas Tech alumnus Luke Calcatera has been selected to succeed the late Dave Falconer as head coach for the Wonder Boys golf program.

Calcatera (photographed) received a Bachelor of Science degree in emergency administration and management from Arkansas Tech in 2007.

He earned four letters as a member of the Wonder Boys golf team from 2003-07 and finished with a career scoring average of 75.6.

Now, after four years working in the private sector, Calcatera returns to his alma mater to succeed the man who recruited him to Arkansas Tech in the first place.

Falconer served as head golf coach for the Wonder Boys from 1989-2011. He passed away at the age of 73 on June 11.

The only coach to ever lead a team from Arkansas to the Gulf South Conference men’s golf championship, Falconer guided the Wonder Boys to that title in 2004.

Falconer also led the Arkansas Tech men’s golf program to four Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference titles (1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995), three berths in the NAIA National Tournament (1993, 1994 and 1995) and seven appearances in NCAA Division II postseason competition (1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009 and 2010).

A native of Keller, Texas, Calcatera is married to the former Ashley Duvall of Russellville.

“I’m extremely excited to return to my alma mater and get the chance to coach the men’s golf program,” said Calcatera in a news release from the Arkansas Tech Athletics Department. “Tech’s program has a lot of tradition and history and I hope to continue that tradition going forward.”
