Arkansas Tech student Bree Boone is spending her summer gaining experience on Capitol Hill.
Boone, a junior broadcast journalism major from Omaha, Ark., is serving as an intern for Congressman Steve Womack.
Among her list of duties, Boone attends committee meetings, gives visitors from Arkansas’ third congressional district tours of the Capitol, answers phone calls from constituents, and runs errands for the office. “It’s been great working with Congressman Womack because he tries to meet with all the constituents that come through his office and give them a little tour of the Capitol himself,” Boone said.
Her advisor informed her about an internship opportunity, she applied, and was invited to head to Washington, DC. Little did she know then she would be there to watch the national debt crisis unfold.
Before going to DC, Boone said she wasn’t really into politics. After spending time in the nation’s capital, she said her eyes have been opened to a side of politics she was never able to experience previously.
“This internship has allowed me to try something new and different. A career here in DC dealing with politics is definitely now an option for me. I’m excited to see what’s in store for me in the future!”
