Boll Weevils Too Much for Wonder Boys

Points off turnovers vaulted the University of Arkansas-Monticello over Arkansas Tech University 88-69 in men’s basketball at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday.

The Boll Weevils forced the Wonder Boys into a season-high 19 turnovers and outscored Arkansas Tech 28-11 in points off turnovers.

“We’re never going to win turning it over like that,” said Chad Kline, ATU head coach. “Our goal every game is to have 10 or fewer turnovers, and we had 11 at halftime. Against the good defensive teams like UAM, you cannot turn it over. They’ll make you pay.”

Austin Hardy paced the Boll Weevils (15-9 overall, 11-7 Great American Conference) with 20 points, 14 of which came in the second half.

Jordan Embry added a season-high 17 points for UAM, which completed a regular season sweep of the Wonder Boys (9-15, 7-11).

R.J. Glasper had 22 points for ATU. Mason Cline added 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range.

Oklahoma Baptist University is the next opponent on the schedule for Arkansas Tech. The Wonder Boys and the Bisons will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, in Shawnee, Okla.
