Boll Weevils Earn Road Win at Tech

Richard Benedyth scored 24 points to lead the University of Arkansas-Monticello to a 72-63 victory over Arkansas Tech University in Great American Conference men’s basketball at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday afternoon.

A 11-0 run midway through the second half gave the Boll Weevils (6-10 overall, 4-6 GAC) a 67-53 lead with 5:24 remaining.

The Wonder Boys (9-8, 4-7) pulled back within 69-63 with 1:32 remaining, but they went 0-for-3 from the field with one turnover the rest of the way.

UA-Monticello earned its second win away from home this season and extended Arkansas Tech’s losing streak to six games.

Jamal Peterson had 15 points, Andre Brown contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds and Vicktor Arnick chipped in 11 points for the Boll Weevils.

Arkansas Tech’s DeChriston McKinney came off the bench to score 15 points, matching his career high. Andrew Guillory had 13 points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Wonder Boys, while Bryson Fletcher tied his season high with 11 points.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University will visit Arkansas Tech for a 7:30 p.m. GAC contest at Tucker Coliseum on Thursday, Jan. 28.

Tickets ($5 adults / $3 senior citizens and students) will be available at the door. Those with a valid Arkansas Tech identification card will be admitted free of charge. Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage.
