Beta Club Convention at Tech This Weekend

Several hundred students from around the state will be on the Arkansas Tech campus on Saturday for the Junior Beta Club State Convention

Throughout the day, students in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitions including academics, quiz bowl, talent, and arts and crafts.  The top three finishers in each competition will receive an invitation to compete at the National Convention in June in Louisville, Kentucky.

Those students interested in running for state office will also present a campaign speech and perform a skit during the convention.  Following elections, the 2010-11 officers will be installed at the conclusion of the convention.

Two National Junior Beta Officers will speak at two of the sessions, and Donnie Thurman will also serve as a guest speaker during the convention.

Thurman serves is the Site Director of Communities in Schools at Crest Middle School in North Carolina, and he was active in the Beta Club when he was in high school.
