Arkansas Tech University alumnus Cody Belew will appear as one of the top 12 contestants on the NBC television program “The Voice” tonight (Monday, Nov. 12) at 7 p.m.
Belew, a 2007 graduate from Arkansas Tech with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music, has advanced through four rounds of competition — blind auditions, battle round, knockout round and playoffs — to reach the finals and earn a chance of winning the grand prize, a recording contract.
His dream of winning that prize nearly ended before it started. His blind audition went to the final note before one of the celebrity coaches — CeeLo Green — picked Belew for his team.
Green selected Belew as the winner of one-on-one singing competitions against teammates in both the battle and knockout rounds. Then, after voters did not select Belew as one of the top two performers from Team CeeLo during the playoffs round, Green used his one save to keep Belew in the competition.
After tonight’s performance, it will be up to viewers to keep Belew in the competition by voting for him via telephone or over the Internet. The phone number will be announced during the broadcast. The online voting page can be accessed here. The voting will open at the end of tonight’s show.
The results of the voting will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 13, on “The Voice” at 7 p.m.
“The Voice” is seen on NBC affiliates around the United States, including KARK in central Arkansas and KNWA in northwest Arkansas. The television program is among the highest-rated in the United States with a regular audience of more than 10 million viewers.
