Bayer Breaks Volleyball Wins Record

Arkansas Tech head volleyball coach Kristy Bayer now stands atop the list of the winningest volleyball coaches in Golden Suns’ history.

Bayer earned her school-record 138th win as Arkansas Tech’s head volleyball coach on Saturday.

The previous record for most wins by a Tech head volleyball coach was held by Tracy McWilliams, who was 137-55 with three Gulf South Conference West Division titles and an NCAA Division II Tournament berth as Golden Suns’ head coach from 1996-2000.

Bayer became the Arkansas Tech head coach in 2004. She inherited a program that was 4-25 in the year before her arrival and quickly returned the Golden Suns to the upper echelon of the GSC West Division.

Going into a Labor Day match at East Central University on Monday, Bayer’s career record at Tech was 138-77. She has guided the Suns to five GSC Tournament berths in the last six years and the 2008 GSC West Division championship.

Bayer earned her Bachelor of Arts (2001) and Master of Education (2003) degrees from Grand Valley State University, where she was a four-year starter on the volleyball team. She recorded a school-record 5,441 assists and was named All-America in 2000.

Bayer was inducted into the Grand Valley State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.
