Basketball Teams Head to Oklahoma

The final 2015-16 regular season road trip to Oklahoma has arrived for the Arkansas Tech University basketball teams.

The Golden Suns and the Wonder Boys will face Oklahoma Baptist University for a Great American Conference doubleheader in Shawnee on Thursday, Feb. 4. Game times are set for 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men).

Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage of both games.

Head coach Dave Wilbers and the nationally 16th-ranked Golden Suns (15-2 overall, 13-0 GAC) have won nine consecutive games and they own a four-game lead for first place in the GAC standings. Their average margin of victory during the winning streak has been 22.3 points.

Arkansas Tech senior forward Fatima Adams ranks ninth in NCAA Division II in scoring (20.9 points per game). She needs 16 points to become the 27th Golden Sun to reach 1,000 career points.

The Oklahoma Baptist Lady Bison (9-10, 7-6) have won three of their last four games, including road wins over Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University last week. OBU’s women are 6-2 at home in their first season as members of the GAC.

The only previous meeting between the Golden Suns and the Lady Bison in Shawnee resulted in a 64-56 Oklahoma Baptist victory on Nov. 21, 1987.

Head coach Chad Kline and the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (10-9, 5-8) hope for continued production from junior guard Tyler Corley. He has averaged 23.5 points per game while making 16-of-21 free throw attempts over his last two games.

The Oklahoma Baptist Bison (5-12, 1-12) have lost nine consecutive games. All five of their wins this season have come at home.

After their visit to Shawnee, the Golden Suns and the Wonder Boys will head to Bethany, Okla., for a GAC doubleheader against Southern Nazarene University at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6. Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage.
