Junior forward Jacinda Myers-Sanders scored 19 points and freshman guard Anissa Pounds notched 17 points to lead Tech to a 78-62 victory over Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms on Jan. 16. The Golden Suns have won their last 11 meetings with UAM and they are 16-1 against the Cotton Blossoms since 2007. Sophomore forward Caroline Eubanks has averaged 18.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game during Tech's five-game winning streak. About the Cotton Blossoms: UA-Monticello snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 71-66 home win over Southern Nazarene University on Saturday. The Cotton Blossoms are very much in danger of missing the GAC Tournament. The Blossoms are two games behind Ouachita Baptist in the race for the eighth and final berth in the postseason tournament with just four regular season games remaining. Sophomore forward Jordan Goforth ranks fourth in the GAC in scoring this season (17.4 points per game). She has averaged 19.5 points per contest in four career games against Arkansas Tech. Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (16-7, 11-4) at UAM Boll Weevils (15-9, 8-8) When: Thursday, Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m. Where: Steelman Fieldhouse, Monticello Radio/Internet: KWKK 100.9 FM/ Series: Tech leads 99-50 About the Wonder Boys: Arkansas Tech maintained sole possession of first place in the GAC standings with a 58-56 home victory over Henderson State on Saturday. Junior guard Tyler Friedel made the game-winning 3-pointer with 14.1 seconds remaining as Arkansas Tech won its fifth consecutive contest and remained undefeated during the month of February. The Wonder Boys shot 61 percent from the field in the second half and four Wonder Boys scored in double figures in an 86-72 victory over Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils on Jan. 16. If Arkansas Tech wins on Thursday, it would be just the second time since 2005 that the Wonder Boys have swept their regular season series with the Boll Weevils. About the Boll Weevils: UA-Monticello has suffered three consecutive defeats, and its losing streak has been marked by poor perimeter shooting. UAM is 14-of-55 from 3-point range in its last three games. The Boll Weevils are the No. 1 rebounding team in the GAC (+5.2 rebounds per game), but they rank 10th in the conference in field goal percentage defense (.450) and last among the 11 GAC members in free throw percentage (.630). Senior forward Brandon Wilson ranks among the GAC individual leaders in scoring (2nd, 17.8 points per game), rebounding (T-5th, 7.6 per game) and offensive rebounds (1st, 3.3 per game).]]>
