Barnes and Sarna Win Tech Invitational

Arkansas Tech Fishing Club members Evan Barnes and Aaron Sarna rallied on day two to win the 2012 Arkansas Tech University College Bass Invitational on Lake Dardanelle.

Barnes and Sarna were in second place after reeling in five bass weighing 16.96 pounds on Friday.

They topped that mark on Saturday with five bass totaling 18.11 pounds.

Their two-day total of 35.07 pounds allowed them to surpass day one leader Travis Harriman of the University of Arkansas and win the seventh annual event.

Harriman, who fished alone, brought in the limit of five fish for a second consecutive day on Saturday. His 13.57 pounds on day two gave him a total of 30.76 pounds and a runner-up finish.

Thirty-nine anglers representing colleges and universities from a four-state region participated in the 2012 Arkansas Tech College Bass Invitational.

Other Arkansas Tech teams, with the place they finished in and their two-day total, included: Adam Zimmerman and Dylan Penzo (5th, 14.55 pounds); Deerick Smith and Brandon Martin (6th, 14.52 pounds); Jake Jacobs and Nathan Cathcart (13th, 6.01 pounds); Evan Smith and Reagan Moore (16th, 4.88 pounds); Matt Manos and Kristin Manos (T-21st, 0 pounds); and Clayton Schuh and Wil Hafner (T-21st, 0 pounds).

The event was hosted by the Arkansas Tech Fishing Club, which won the 2011-12 Association of Collegiate Anglers national school of the year award. The Arkansas Tech College Bass Invitational marked the beginning of the 2012-13 college fishing season.
