Arkansas Tech University student Carly Mitchell views civic engagement as an obligation that she embraces.

“We are the upcoming voice of America,” said Mitchell. “Our actions matter now just as much as they will in the future. It is our responsibility to focus on shaping the future of our community and country into a better one.”

Mitchell is one of 232 college and university students from across the United States named to the 2025 All In Campus Challenge Student Voting Honor Roll.

The honor roll recognizes college students at participating campuses who have gone above and beyond to advance non-partisan student voter registration, education and turnout efforts in their communities.

Mitchell is from Amity. She is an ATU sophomore majoring in criminal justice and sociology.

“I participated in the Wonder Vote Ambassador program through the ATU Department of Campus Life during the 2024 fall semester,” said Mitchell. “I worked with students and staff to ensure that Arkansas Tech students knew their options and civic duties. I served ATU by providing non-partisan support and details to students through tabling and presentations. I helped students make a voting plan, sign up to vote and promoted election day and events.

“I came into this project because I wanted the students to know that their voices needed to be heard and their values fulfilled,” continued Mitchell. “Students have loud voices, but they are sometimes muffled because we are so new to the civic process. That is why it is so important to learn and participate in civic engagement.”

The All In Campus Challenge is a national non-partisan initiative of Civic Nation. The challenge strives to change civic culture and institutionalize voter engagement activities and programs on college campuses, making voter participation a defining feature of campus life.

“It is an honor to receive this award,” said Mitchell. “It means so much to me because I have always wanted to make a difference and help people, and that is what I felt I have done through this program. I am very grateful for this opportunity and hope to continue making positive changes in my community.”
