ATU’s Ishimura Receives Vision 2020 Grant

Manami Ishimura, visiting instructor of art at Arkansas Tech University, has earned a Vision 2020 grant from the Mid-South Sculpture Alliance.

Ishimura was selected from among more than 50 applicants for the grant, which recognizes artists from diverse backgrounds.

A native of Tokyo, Japan, Ishimura served as the first artist in residence in ATU history during the spring 2019 semester and created “Tsumiki” with support from the Windgate Charitable Foundation. The sculpture is on permanent display outside the Techionery on the ATU campus in Russellville.

Ishimura remained at ATU in her current role as visiting instructor of art following her residency.

A graduate of Tama University in Japan, Ishimura holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Wichita Falls Museum of Art, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Tama Art University Gallery and Ginza Seido Gallery are among the places where Ishimura’s art has been placed on exhibition.
