ATU Welcomes Students Home During Move-In Day

ATU Move-In Day 2022
Arkansas Tech University students, their families, volunteers from the ATU move-in crew and ATU faculty and staff were among those who worked together during move-in day 2022.

As a third-year Arkansas Tech University student, Madison Herring said move-in day for the fall 2022 semester represented a return to her second home.

“I’m happy and excited to be back,” said Herring, a print journalism major from White Hall who was among those returning to ATU on Saturday, Aug. 13. “Of course, there’s going to be a little bit of homesickness at the start. Getting to do this for the third time is really exciting. I’m so happy to be back.”

As a freshman ATU student, Kodiak Forst said he feels like he found the university that will help him take the next step in life.

“I was trying to choose between Arkansas Tech and (the University of Arkansas at) Fayetteville, and Arkansas Tech just felt newer and like they would better be able to meet my needs,” said Forst, a mechanical engineering major from Sherwood. “I’m anxious to move in and see my room. I know today can be stressful for a lot of people, but so far it seems very well orchestrated and pretty stress free.”

Forst and his fellow freshmen will participate in TechConnect orientation through Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Many Welcome Week events, including ATU Involvement Fair from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the corner of West L Street and North El Paso Avenue in Russellville, are open to all Arkansas Tech students.

All of the activities in advance of the first day of class on Wednesday, Aug. 17, will provide Forst with a head start on one of his top priorities for this year.

“I’m most looking forward to making new friends,” said Forst. “It will be fun to meet people with similar interests and make some connections.”

Herring said her big dream is to move to a large city and write for a magazine. In the meantime, she’s focused on making the most of the 2022-23 academic year at ATU.

“I’m starting to look beyond graduation and what I want to do with my degree,” said Herring. “I’ll be getting into more of my core classes within my major. I also have a lot of opportunities with my sorority, Delta Zeta, so I am excited to be involved with that as well.”
