Arkansas Tech University students participated in an annual tradition and helped their neighbors in need during a T-shirt trade on the first day of class for the fall 2018 semester.
Conducted on Wednesday, Aug. 22, between Baswell Techionery and Chambers Cafeteria, the T-shirt trade provided ATU students with an opportunity to trade a T-shirt from their high school or another university in exchange for an Arkansas Tech T-shirt. Students without a T-shirt to trade were able to acquire the Arkansas Tech T-shirt for $1.
The funds raised during the 2018 T-shirt trade were $416.10, which was in turn deposited into the ATU Foundation account for the Green and Gold Cupboard.
Located at 1019 N. Arkansas Avenue in Russellville, the Green and Gold Cupboard is a resource for ATU students, faculty and staff who are facing food insecurity.
“The T-shirt trade is always one of the most popular events on the first day of classes each year,” said Kevin Solomon, associate dean for campus life at ATU. “Five hundred students come away with a one-of-a-kind Tech shirt, donations go to the great cause of the Green and Gold Cupboard and all donated T-shirts go to a local thrift store to help with their mission. This is a win-win-win all the way around.”
