ATU Students, Alumnae Competing at Miss Arkansas

Two Arkansas Tech University students and four ATU graduates are among the contestants vying for the title of Miss Arkansas 2023 this week.

Kristin Hardy of Benton, Macie Johnson of Bauxite, Alli Beth King of Rison, Hannah Lomax of Russellville, Tara Ross of Lamar and Sophe Sligh of Hot Springs will represent Arkansas Tech at the Robinson Center in Little Rock.

They will participate in four rounds of preliminary competition (interview, on-stage conversation, evening gown and talent) in hopes of advancing to the final night of competition on Saturday, June 10.

Hardy, 22, is Miss Petit Jean Valley. She graduated from ATU in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. Her talent is a performance of “After Like” on flute. Hardy’s community service initiative is “M.I.N.D.: Mental Illness Never Defines.”

Johnson, 23, is Miss Capital City and a 2022 graduate of Arkansas Tech with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. Her talent is a jazz dance to “Tough Lover.” Johnson’s community service initiative is “Haven’s Heroes: Look Twice, Save a Life.”

King, 20, is Miss Southeast Arkansas and a senior communications student at ATU. Her talent is a tap dance to the tune of “Lean On Me.” King’s community service initiative is “It Starts With One.”

Lomax, 22, is Miss Arkansas Tech University and a senior biology biomedical option and music student at Arkansas Tech. Her talent is a performance of “La Malaguena” on piano. Lomax’s community service initiative is “Letters of Hope.”

Ross, 22, is Miss Johnson County. She graduated from ATU in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture business. Her talent is flag twirling to the tune of “River.” Ross’ community service initiative is “Plus Me, Plus You.”

Sligh, 24, is Miss Greater Little Rock and a 2021 graduate of Arkansas Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Her talent is a violin performance of “Thunderstruck Medley.” Sligh’s community service initiative is “Live Smart for a Healthy Heart.”

Miss Arkansas is an official preliminary to the Miss America competition.
