Great American Conference coaches have identified Arkansas Tech University as the favorite to capture the 2017 GAC women's tennis championship.

The Golden Suns received three first-place votes and 31 points in the preseason poll, which was released on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Southeastern Oklahoma State University (2nd, 30 points) and Oklahoma Baptist University (3rd, 29 points) both received two first-place votes.

Henderson State University (4th, 18 points), Harding University (5th, 17 points) and Southern Nazarene University (6th, 16 points) formed another group of three tightly-bunched teams in the voting. Ouachita Baptist University (7th, 6 points) completed the poll.

Arkansas Tech was 11-13 overall and 4-3 in the GAC in 2016. The Golden Suns reached the championship match of the 2016 GAC Tournament before falling to Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Head coach Abby Davis' 2017 Arkansas Tech team will begin its spring schedule on Feb. 11 with a 5 p.m. neutral-site match against Delta State University in Arkadelphia.
