ATU Hosts High School Students for Symposium

Arkansas Tech University hosted the 2025 Arkansas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium on its Russellville campus Friday, Feb. 21, and Saturday, Feb. 22.

Students from Abundant Life Christian Academy, the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts in Hot Springs, Little Rock Central High School and Maumelle High School were among those who attended the symposium.

Activities included poster presentations on Friday afternoon and oral presentations on Saturday morning. Dr. Aniruddha Acharya, ATU assistant professor of biology, provided delegates with a keynote address entitled “Plants: Beyond Photosynthesis.”

The annual Arkansas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium highlights original research and experimentation by high school students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Arkansas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium has been held at Arkansas Tech since 1967.

The Arkansas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium serves as a regional qualifier for the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.

The program is sponsored at a national level by the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.

Local sponsors for the symposium at ATU included Dreami Tea, La Quinta Inn and Posey Printing.

The 2026 Arkansas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium is planned for Feb. 20-21, 2026. Registration will be open in January 2026 at www.atu.edu/jshs.
